Confirmation, Reception and Reaffirmation in the Episcopal Church

Confirmation

“Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop.” The Book of Common Prayer

Confirmation is a way for individuals who have been baptized to reaffirm the promises that were made at their baptism and to take their full place in the life of the universal church. Confirmation is offered when the bishop visits Resurrection. The Catechism Class, offered periodically, serves as preparation for Confirmation.

Because Confirmation is a way for individuals to take their full place in the life of the universal church, we recognize Confirmations performed by a bishop and has been offered in the Roman Catholic, ELCA, and Orthodox Churches. If you have been confirmed in one of these, and by a bishop, you would be received into this church when the bishop is here. If you have already been confirmed or received in the Episcopal Church, you may reaffirm your baptismal vows during the bishop’s visit.

Reception

If you have been confirmed by a bishop in the Roman Catholic, ELCA, and Orthodox Churches, you would be received into this church when the bishop is here.

Reaffirmation

Those who have been baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church and wish to recommit themselves to the Christian life of faith may choose to reaffirm their baptismal covenant with the bishop.

If you have questions about Confirmation, Reception or Reaffirmation in the Episcopal Church, please contact the church office and our clergy will reach out.
