New Here?

When you walk through the doors at Resurrection Episcopal Church, the first thing you’ll notice is that you won’t be walking in alone. Our priest, Mother Sandy, greets people at the door each Sunday morning, and someone will gladly sit with you during the service if you’d like. Because we are a smaller congregation, newcomers are quickly welcomed into the life of the community. If you visit a second time, someone may even ask if you’d like a name tag so we can learn your name more easily—and by the third or fourth visit, you’ll likely find yourself invited to coffee hour or one of our gatherings. At Resurrection, relationships matter, and we believe church should feel like coming home.

Our primary worship service is Holy Eucharist at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays, with a shorter midweek Eucharist and healing service on Wednesdays at 12:05 p.m.  Episcopal worship follows a pattern of prayer that Christians have used for centuries. You’ll hear readings from Scripture, join in prayers for the world, listen to a sermon, and share in Holy Communion. Everything you need to follow along is printed in the service bulletin, so even if you’ve never been to an Episcopal service before, you’ll be able to participate easily. Our music is a blend of traditional hymns and choir-led worship, and the service usually lasts about an hour.

People sometimes wonder what to wear to church. The simple answer is: come as you are. Some people dress casually, others a bit more formally, but you’ll find everything from jeans to Sunday best in the pews. What matters most is that you feel comfortable and welcomed. After the service, many people stay for coffee hour—a relaxed time to meet others, share conversation, and continue building the friendships that make this community special.

At Resurrection, our mission is “to proclaim the Good News and heal the broken.”  Whether you’ve been part of church your whole life, are returning after some time away, or are simply exploring faith for the first time, there is a place for you here. We believe that faith grows best in community, and we would be honored to walk that journey with you.

Where should I park?

Resurrection Episcopal Church has two parking lots, so arriving is simple and stress-free. Most people park in the main lot and walk directly to the front doors of the church, though some choose to park in the grass lot on the west side of the campus. If you’re visiting for the first time, just follow the path toward the entrance—someone will be there to greet you and help you find your way.

What about Holy Communion?

In the Episcopal Church, the table is open to all baptized Christians. If you would like to receive communion, simply come forward when others do and the priest will guide you. If you prefer not to receive, you are always welcome to come forward for a blessing by crossing your arms over your chest, or you may remain seated in prayer. However you choose to participate, you are welcome here.

What if I’ve never been to an Episcopal church before?

Many people who visit Resurrection are new to the Episcopal tradition—or even new to church altogether. Our worship follows a printed bulletin so you can easily follow along with the prayers, readings, and hymns. If you ever feel unsure about what to do, simply watch those around you or ask the person sitting nearby. Episcopal worship is participatory, but there is never any pressure to do everything perfectly. Just come and pray.

What if I’m not sure what I believe?

You are not alone. The Episcopal Church has long been a place where people can ask thoughtful questions and explore faith with both heart and mind. At Resurrection, we believe that faith grows through prayer, conversation, and community. Whether you are certain in your beliefs or simply curious, you are welcome to walk this journey with us.

Will anyone talk to me?

Most likely, yes. Because we are a smaller congregation, people tend to notice when someone new is with us and will often introduce themselves or invite you to sit with them during the service. After worship, many people stay for coffee hour—a relaxed time to meet others and continue the conversation. There is never any pressure, but we do love getting to know new friends.

Interested in becoming a member?

Membership in The Episcopal Church is by virtue of baptism. If you have been baptized before, then you are already a member of the universal church, and becoming a member of Resurrection is as easy as having your baptismal record transferred to our church. To transfer your baptismal record, please download our newcomer form. You can return it directly to the church or email it to admin@reslargo.org.

If you have not been baptized, we would love to talk with you about this sacrament of repentance and initiation into the Christian family. Baptism is the foundation upon which our faith begins and we offer baptism on feast days throughout the year, and you are encouraged you to call the church office or contact a member of the clergy and let us know that you would like to be baptized and we will begin the preparation classes.

If you have been baptized and are looking for a "refresher" course or would like to learn more about The Episcopal Church and the  Christian faith, you are invited to participate in our Catechism Class, typically offered around Lent. Although not necessary, participants in the Inquirers Class are encouraged to be confirmed or received when the bishop makes his annual visitation as a way of making their commitment to the Resurrection public.
